Tribe seeks eviction of non-Indians

FEBRUARY 26, 2001

The Chemehuevi Tribe of California is seeking to evict seven non-Indian homeowners on their reservation along the Colorado River bordering Arizona.

The homeowners say their civil rights are being violated. A federal judge last week refused to grant them a temporary restratining order that would prevent the tribe from evicting them.

The homeowners have home-site leases on the land. They the land isn't even part of the reservation so the tribe can't force them out.
