FEBRUARY 13, 2001 Thomas Tureen, an attorney for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, on Monday said the tribe wants to meet with the leaders of three Connecticut towns who have opposed them on a number of issues. The leaders of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston are prohibited from negotiating with the tribe, however. Residents would have to repeal or change ordinances prohbiting negotiations. Town leaders say they are willing to accept any proposal made by the tribe but that they have to ake it to the voters first. Get the Story:
