At a town meeting on Monday, residents of the Connecticut town of North Stonington agreed to spend an additional $27,000 to fight the federal recognition of two Pequot tribes.

Some $35,000 had already been appropriated in this year's budget. According to The New London Day, a total of $163,000 has been spent by the town.

The town was one of three present at a public meeting on the federal recognition petitions of the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribes. Mark Sebastian, vice chairman of the Eastern Pequot Tribe, said they are prepared to fight for their approval and have spent $4 million already. Their financial backer is David Rosow, a golf resort developer.
