OCTOBER 10, 2000 The effort to remove Mescalero Apache President Sara Misquez from office has been dealt a setback now that the tribal council has declared a recall petition invalid. The council said not enough eligible voters signed the petition. The council received written complaints from tribal members who believed they were signing something else, so they retracted those. The council also found duplicate signatures and signatures of ineligible voters. The remaining amount of signatures did not reach the required 25 percent of eligible voters, said the council secretary. Get the Story:
