Today is national HIV testing day

Americans are being urged to get tested for HIV today as sites throughout the country offer free services for "National HIV Testing Day."

The rate of HIV infection and cases of AIDS among Indian Country has skyrocketed over the past two decades. According to research from the Centers for Disease Control, young Native American males have the third highest prevalence rate of HIV infection among racial and ethnic minorities.

The Indian Health Services says there are about 2,700 Native Americans living with AIDS, most of them male.
