MAY 11, 2001 American Indian women have the second highest rate of pregnancy-related deaths in the country, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday. American Indian and Alaska Native women die from pregnancy complications at a rate of 12.2 per 100,000, according to the report. The rate for White women is 7.3 per 100,000. African-American women have the higest rate of all: 30 per 100,000. The study is based on data from 1991 to 1997. Get the Report:
