OCTOBER 3, 2000

As required by a 1998 law, the Minnesota state Department of Health reported the number of abortions performed, with 2 percent of women being Native American.

Some 14,342 abortions were performed by 78 doctors, mostly at six clinics. The reason most often cited by women for seeking abortions was not wanting a child at the time.
