Former AFN chief named to claims board

THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2001

Former Assemby of First Nations Chief Phil Fontaine has been named to head Canada's Indian Claims Commission.

The appointment is immediate, said Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.

The ICC helpes settle land disputes between First Nations and the government.
