The Senate won't take up an energy bill that could include drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge until next year, said Majority Leader Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) at a press conference on Tuesday.

Daschle said there are other more important matters such as economic stimulus and national security. So any energy policy won't be on the agenda until Congress reconvenes in January.

Republican proponents of drilling blasted the move. They have been criticizing Daschle for holding back energy while the House has passed its version of the bill.
