Idaho tribe extends field burning

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho extended a field burning period for two more weeks Wednesday, a day before burning was supposed to stop.

A tribal spokesperson said the extension was made because more acreage needed to be burned. Kentucky blue grass farmers say burning is needed to stimulate crop production.

A group of physicians, however, says the practice is unhealthy.

The tribe is holding a public meeting today on a natural, environmental and cultural resources management plan.
