FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 2001 Coeur d'Alene tribal chairman and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) are pushing Congress to authorize $250 million for the clean-up of the Coeur d'Alene basin in Idaho. Cleanup of the basin could cost as much as $3 billion. Mining companies have polluted the area for more than a century. The United States and the tribe are suing two companies to help clean up the site. The site is under consideration for the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund list.
