JANUARY 23, 2001 Ernie Stensgar, chairman of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, was among those in attendance at the start of the largest Superfund trial in history in Boise, Idaho, on Monday. The tribe and the government are suing mining companies in the Coeur d'Alene Basin to pay for cleanup there. It could cost as much as $3 billion and the tribe and the government don't want taxpayers to foot the bill.
