Interior proposes Hopi eagle rule

The Department of Interior on Thursday submitted a rule which would allow some members of the Hopi Tribe to gather baby golden eagles for ceremonial use from the Wupatki National Monument in Arizona.

The tribe already has permits to gather eagles, but the permits don't say where. Wupatki is traditional Hopi land.

The rule has been sent to the Federal Register for publication but since the transition of team of President George W. Bush has held back for review all proposed regulations, it probably won't be published for sometime.

The rule calls for a 60-day comment period on the issue.
