DECEMBER 14, 2000 The Central Wisconsin Lumber has agreed to pay $150,000 for allegedly removing trees without approval from the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation in Wisconsin. The United States brought the suit against the company for allegedly removing land, possibly by mistake, from the tribal land. The timber was valued at $50,000. Without admitting guilt, the company agreed to pay $150,000 to settle the suit. Federal law allows the government to retrieve three times the value of the timber removed. Get the Story:
