DECEMBER 13, 2000 Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt on Friday will visit the Tent Rocks in New Mexico in anticipation of recommending it as a national monument. Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-N.Mex) and Cochiti Pueblo are urging Babbitt to make the recommendation. President Bill Clinton would then make it a national monument under the Antiquities Act of 1906. The Pueblo considers parts of the area sacred. It jointly manages the site with the Bureau of Land Management. Get the Story:
