Canadian find suggests Hopi influence

Rock art discovered in Canada is lending proof to Native oral history that the Hopi Tribe once lived in Alberta anywhere from 500 to 1,300 years ago.

Hopi history tells that members migrated throughout the Americas before settling down in Arizona. Marty Magne, a Parks Canada archaeologist, says rock art found in Grotto Canyon near Canmore of a traditional Hopi flute player supports the oral account.

History of the Stoney First Nation also tells that the art was made by "Rattlesnake people" who lived in the canyon. Rattlesnake ceremonies have been documented among the Hopi Tribe.
