JUNE 29, 2001 Growing up near a coal mine which ultimately caused her house to catch afire, Karletta Chief was driven to succeed by her parents and her determination to improve the way of life for Navajo people. Chief wants to start an environmental consulting firm that focuses on tribal traditions. But before she does that, she'll be completing her doctorate at the University of Arizona. Chief received her undergraduate degrees from Stanford University in California. She is the reigning Miss Navajo Nation. Get the Story:
