MAY 30, 2001 Indian activists, educators, and leaders led a protest outside the Minneapolis School District headquarters on Tuesday, demaning a greater role in the education of Indian students. High drop-out rates, funding, testing performance, attendance records, and preservation of language and culture are among the group's demands on the district. Only about 15 percent of Indian students who entered the 9th grade in 1996 graduated in 2000, according to a study by the Minneapolis Public Schools Foundation. Get the Story:
