MAY 18, 2001 The former executive director of the Haskell Foundation on Thursday pleaded guilty to embezzling $103,979.47 in funds designed to help the Kansas tribal college. Gerald T. Burd admitted he stole the money in 1998 and 1999. In December 1999, he resigned from his position amid questions of the foundation's finances. The foundation was $1 million in debt as of last October. Burd will repay the money as well as $336,549.18 embezzled from a trust fund in New Mexico. Get the Story:
