Alaska Natives to rebury remains

FEBRUARY 14, 2001

Several Alaska Native communities are preparing to rebury remains returned to them by the University of Alaska.

About half of the 1,000 sets of human remains in the school's museum have been repatriated to Natives in the state since the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act went into effect in 1990. Some were taken by accident, others were removed as part of excavations.
