Tribes seek inclusion in education

Tribes in Maine are seeking inclusion of their history in the public and private school curriculum in a new bill sponsored by the Penobscot Nation Representative Donna M. Loring.

Loring's bill would require public and private schools to provide education on tribal governments, culture, history, language, and other aspects of Maine's tribes. It would also set up a standards commission whose seven members would be drawn from the state's tribes.
