OCTOBER 19, 2000

More than 85 canoes found in a lake in Florida have been dated from 500 to 5,000 years old.

Most were built between 3,000 and 5,000 years ago. They were tested by the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research.

Jim Billie, Chief of the Seminole Tribe, said the name for the lake at which the boats were found is Pithlachocco, meaning "place of long boats."
