AUGUST 7, 2000 The St Regis Mohawk of New York, the Cayuaga Nation of New York, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans of Wisconsin are all in talks to develop a casino in the Catskills region of New York. Each of the the tribes is working with a different developer. Park Place Entertainment with the Mohawk, Catskills Development Corp with the Cayuga, and Trading Cove Associates with the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, a Wisconsin tribe, who own land in New York, their traditional homeland. Originally, the Catskills Development Corp and the Mohawk had received approval for the off-reservation casino. But the tribe switched gaming partners to Park Place, casting doubt, controversy, and a lawsuit over the future of the tribe's developments. Get the Story:
