FROM THE ARCHIVE
AUGUST 30, 2000 Gaming mogul Donald Trump paid a New York group at least $118,000 to develop eight television, newspaper, and radio ads describing the St. Regis Mohawk tribe as criminals. The New York Temporary State Commission on Lobbying ruled the ads were considered lobbying and as such, the Rome-based Institute for Law and Society might have to reveal the source of its funding. Trump's lawyer and lawyers for the group disclosed the amounts as well as $300,000 Trump spent on lobbying to the Commission. The Comission can fine Trump up to $50,000 for filing a false report and $25,000 for failing to file one at all. Get the Story:
