AUGUST 18, 2000 Blues-rock group Indigenous will be grabbing the national spotlight in a series of shows opening for the Dave Matthews Band. The family four-piece outfit will open three shows for the popular group. David Gray, an Irish singer, was scheduled to open the shows, but had to pull out for undisclosed reasons.Indigenous is currently on a nationwide tour of their own in support of their latest release Circle. After playing the Rock N Blues Festival in Oil City, Michigan, early on Saturday, they will open for Dave Matthews in East Troy, Wisconsin, at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre later that night and on Sunday. The outdoor venue, with a seating capacity of 40,000, will undoubtedly be the largest the group has played. The band has played to large crowds before, however, having opened for B.B. King on the guitar legend's previous tour.Earlier this year, they also played to crowd of thousands at the Earth Day 2000 Concert in Washington, DC in April. Before that show, guitarist Mato Nanji told Indianz.Com that the band was "a little nervous." But having played countless shows in major national markets such as Boston and New York City, the band probably has little to worry about. The group just played a concert for the National Museum of American Indian in New York last night. After the Wisconsin shows, Indigenous will head to Cuyahoga Falls in Ohio to open another show for the Dave Matthews Band on Tuesday. The Blossom Music Center has a capacity of almost 19,000.Related Stories:
