On Friday, Claudia Vigil-Muniz took over as President of the Jicarilla Apache Tribe of New Mexico, the first woman to hold the position.

Along with vice president Lamavaya Caramillo, Vigil-Muniz is also leading the first all-female administration. Vigil-Muniz was formerly employed with the Jicarilla Apache Department of Education and their school system was recently placed on probation by accreditation officials.
