Town complains about BIA

North Stonington First Selectman Nicholas H Mullane said the Bureau of Indian Affairs still hasn't responded to all of the Freedom of Information Act requests by three Connecticut towns.

The BIA has sent 2,000 pages of material on the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribes to the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preson. In a letter to the state's Congressional delegation, Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover said 6,000 more pages are on their way.

Mullane told The New London Day that the BIA is placing the burden on the states and towns. He wants the BIA to suspend the 180-day comment period on the two tribes until they have satisfied all of their FOIA requests.
