JULY 17, 2000 The Institute of the American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico has settled its lawsuit against former teachers who were fired in 1996 and had accused the school of ignoring Indian preference laws at the federal school, which is an independent Congressional agency. The English professor Barney Bush, sculpture professor Don Chunestudey, painting professor and former dean Felix Vigil, photography professor Larry McNeil, and painting professor Craig Anderson also charged the school of retaliation for speaking out against alcohol by a Board member at a school function and for criticizing the adminstration. The settlement is sealed from public view and the parties are under a confidentiality order. The US Attorneys Office represented the Institute and their officers. Get the Story:
