New Crow leaders make changes

The new leadership of the Crow Tribe of Montana held its first meeting on July 8 and made several changes that will affect the tribe's future, including a proposal to revise the tribe's constitution and to renegotiate the Bighorn River water compact the state recently presented for tribal approval in June. New Chairman Clifford Bird in Ground has been critical of the negotiation process.

The council also declared all legal agreements made by former chair Clara Nomee beginning March 21, 1997 as "voidable." Nomee's conviction of theft against the tribe was largely upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in April.
