FROM THE ARCHIVE
JUNE 28, 2000 Leaders from the Connecticut towns of Preston, Ledyard, and North Stonington met with the solicitor for the Department of the Interior, and with staff members for the two leaders of the House Committee on Resources. They told The New London Day the meeting went well. Today, they will meet with members of Connecticut's Congressional delegation. The newspaper reported yesterday that they will meet with Senators Slade Gorton (R Wash) and Senator Frank Murkowski (R Alaska), members of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. It is unclear whether or not they will still meet with the pair. A request for comment by Murkowski was not answered. Next month, the towns, their lawyers, and state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal will meet with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Get the Story:
