MAY 15, 2000 Members of the newly formed American Land Rights Coalition hope to meet with members of Congress to discuss the land claims case of the Oneida Nation of New York. Among other things, the group wants:
- Congress to ratify the illegal treaties between the state of New York and the Oneida Nation--treaty making was suspended in 1871
- Congress to limit Indian sovereignty--many tribal powers have been limited by Congress and the Supreme Court over the years
- the Department of Justice to stop supporting the Oneida Nation.
