Alejandro Toledo, former Peruvian presidential candidate, is calling on protesters to block the inauguration of incumbent Alberto Fujimori. Fujimori won the run-off election held Sunday, May 28th, due in part to Toledo's official withdrawal from the race.

As of Monday, 89 percent of the ballots were counted. Approximately 30.9 percent of the ballots were spoiled. Fujimori received 50.9 percent of the vote compared to 17.5 percent for Toledo.

The United States on Monday called the election invalid due to serious concerns on the legitimacy of the voting process but recently softened their tone. The US had earlier threatened economic sanctions after the first election and the State Department is still expected to reduce political ties to Peru.

Toledo said he will schedule a protest on July 26, two days before the inauguration.
