AUGUST 17, 2000 Senator John McCain (R-Ariz) will undergo testing for skin cancer this week and is expected to undergo sugery, his office confirmed on Wednesday. "During a routine examination two unrelated spots were discovered on Senator John McCain," sai his office. "One is on his left temple, the other on his left arm. The spots were confirmed to be melanomas after an August 4th biopsy performed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland." Melonoma is the most lethal form of skin cancer. Fair-skinned persons are more susceptible to rusk, but prolonged exposure to the sun is a factor. Early detection is necessary for successful treatment. Examination once a year is suggested. McCain has suspended all campaign appearances. Relevant Links:
