The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and conservationists in Nevada lost their appeal to stop a long-closed mine from dumping waste waters contaminated with cyanide and other toxics on the tribe's ancestral lands in the Northern Nevada desert.

The Nevada State Environmental Commission rejected their appeal on Tuesday.

The parties haven't ruled out a possible lawsuit but will most likely work on changing existing regulations.
