JULY 24, 2000

Inuit Junior Rangers from the community of Tasiujaq paddled across Quebec, literally and culturally, in a program which joined them with their southern Quebecois colleagues.

A total of 77 teens, 47 from southern Quebec and 30 Inuit ranger, from the Armed Forces youth program participated in the canoe trip. The trip took them through tundra, mountains, and forests across northern Quebec in a 500-km journey that aimed to bring the two groups together.

Some of the Inuit reported racism and tension between them and the cadets. One reported that the cadets did not give them enough food and referred to them as "dogs."
