AUGUST 15, 2000 After surviving two major fires, the Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado reopened to the public on Monday, but local businesses are worried they have already missed a crucial money-making period in the summer season. Admission to the park will be free for two weeks. Some of the park will not be re-opened for about a month, due to the most recent Pony Fire, which burned about 5,240 acres.
