JULY 10, 2000 Rural homes on the Navajo Nation can tap into the power of the sun, thanks to a $220,000 federal grant and Native American Photovoltaics, a non-profit company that has been installing solar power generators on the southwestern part of the reservation. Bringing power to the reservation can be more expensive than telephone service and solar power is a cheaper alternative. The NAPV program allows Navajo families lease generators for three-years, paying $50 a month to cover the $10,000 a generator costs. Get the Story:
