MAY 15, 2000 A Northern New Mexico fire that has been burning since May 4 came close to Puye Cliffs, a historic Santa Clara Pueblo site. Firefighters were able to stop the blaze before it reached the cliff dwellings. It had come within an eighth of a mile from the visitor's center. Puye was occupied from about 1250 AD to 1577 AD, with some inhabitants still living there up until the 20th century. The site lies within Santa Clara Pueblo land.
