SEPTEMBER 8, 2000 Archaeologists have uncovered Cancuen, a 2,400-year-old Mayan city in Guatamela. Cancuen was a center of Mayan trading. It is located in the southwestern portion of the province of Peten, in northern Guatemala. Looters apparently avoided searching the area for artifacts because the city did not contain any towers like other Mayan cities. Get the Story:
