SEPTEMBER 7, 2000 Along with an attempt to recruit more Native Americans, the University of Wyoming is attempting to attract minority students to its campus in Laramie. The school has less than 1,000 minorities now and in the next five years, hopes to add 1,400 more to bring the total minority population to 11 percent of the student body. In June, President Philip Dubois created a new position to exclusively focus on recruitment and retention. The school is also working with the tribes on the Wind River Reservation, the state's only reservation. About 2 percent of the state is Native American, according to the latest Census Bureau estimates. Get the Story:
