AUGUST 7, 2000 The national Advisory Council on Historic Preservation says the Army Corps of Engineers have violated a Yankton Sioux burial site broken federal laws in the process. The Corps in 1950 built the Fort Randall Dam. As part of the construction, they were to remove 428 graves to a cemetery. The the Corps never did and bones began surfacing ever since the 1960s and more graves were exposed in 1999. The tribe has maintained all along the Corps has broken several laws. The Council has terminated a 1994 agreement over management of resovoirs. Get the Story:
