JULY 17, 2000 Marpiya Okinajin, or He Who Stands in the Clouds, also known as Cut Nose, a Dakota warrior has been repatriated to the Lower Sioux Indian Community of Morton, Minnesota and was reburied at a ceremony attended by various tribes. Also known a Cut Nose, Marpiya Okinajin was hanged by the US Army in 1862 for taking part of the Dakota Conflict. His body was dug up by grave robbers and given to Dr. William Mayo, father of the brothers who founded the Mayo Clinic, for study. His skull was first discovered at the Mayo Clinic and the rest of his body was discovered at a museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Get the Story:
