Swimmer to appear on Native America Calling
MONDAY, JULY 7, 2003 Special trustee Ross Swimmer is scheduled to appear on Native America Calling, the nationally-broadcast radio program, this Wednesday. According to a description of the show, host Harlan McKosato will attempt to answer some basic questions about the Office of Special Trustee and its function. "To many tribal members, the OST is just the newest piece of the federal bureaucratic puzzle that isn't necessarily intended to benefit them directly or even indirectly," the description reads. "But its vital importance is being somewhat underestimated and overlooked by most of Indian Country." In fiscal year 2004, the Bush administration requested $275 million for OST. The House Appropriations Committee has reduced this amount by $45 million in order to pay for a controversial trust fund settlement program. Wednesday's program will air at 1 p.m. EST.
