Tribal leaders at NCAI back Piestewa Peak
TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 2003
The National Congress of American Indians passed a resolution on Monday to back the renaming of a peak in Arizona for Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman killed in action in Iraq.
Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) spoke at NCAI's mid-year session, being held at the Gila River Reservation outside Phoenix. She backed the name change and said some are trying to get it reconsidered.
