The House Committee on Education and Workforce holds a markup on H.R.1723, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act.
H.R.1723 puts tribal governments on the same footing as state and local governments when it comes to federal labor law. The bill clarifies that tribes and their entities are not subject to the National Labor Relations Act or to the jurisdiction of the National Labor Relations Board.
Following consideration, the committee approved H.R.1723 by a vote of 19 to 16. The bill can now be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives for further consideration.
The markup took place on September 17, 2025, in Room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
