Five members of the U.S. Senate speak in support of S.1723, the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act, on July 24, 2024.
The bipartisan bill establishes the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies. The national body would require the U.S. government to examine the impacts of the genocidal Indian boarding school era.
The following lawmakers spoke in support of bringing S.1732 to the floor of the Senate for passage: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), lead sponsor of the bill;
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), vice chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs;
Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colorado);
Sen. Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts); and
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
