Nygren took office as president of the Navajo Nation in January 2023. He is the youngest person to hold the tribe’s highest executive office.

“With unwavering resolve, it is a testament to our collective strength as Indian people,” Nygren said at NCAI. “Our unity is not just our heritage; it is our power; it is a unity that empowers us to advocate for our rights to ensure that our voices are heard.”

NCAI hosted its 80th annual convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, from November 12-17, 2023.
