Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Bryan Newland addresses the National Congress of American Indians on November 13, 2023.

Newland, a citizen of the Bay Mills Indian Community, is a political appointee at the Department of the Interior. In his role, he oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Education.

In his remarks, Newland discussed the ongoing investigation into the genocidal Indian boarding school era, as well as initiatives to promote tribal sovereignty and self-determination at Interior.

NCAI hosted its 80th annual convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, from November 12-17, 2023.
