Rutherford Falls, the groundbreaking television show featuring Native talent and Native writers, is back for a second season.

The new season begins streaming on the Peacock platform on June 16. Sierra Teller Ornelas, a citizen of the Navajo Nation who helped create the sitcom, is promising plenty of laughs for viewers across Turtle Island.

“’Rutherford Falls’ is back! Get ready to laugh, cry, and swoon,” said Ornelas, who in addition to being a co-creator serves as executive producer, showrunner and a writer for the series.

“Do people still swoon? Well, they will now!” Ornelas exclaimed.

Rutherford Falls is set on a fictional town and on a fictional reservation. The cast includes Jana Schmieding, a citizen of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, and Michael Greyeyes, who is Plains Cree from the Muskeg Lake First Nation.

Ornelas, whose television credits include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Happy Endings, Splitting Up Together and Superstore, created Rutherford Falls along with Ed Helms, who stars in the show, and Mike Schur. All three are part of the second season.

“Ed Helms, Mike Schur, and I had an absolute blast making a show that’s heartfelt, laugh-out-loud funny, and depicts Native Americans in ways you never see on television,” Ornelas said “Also, a lot of people get punched/kicked in the face.”

“We hope you enjoy Season 2!” said Ornelas.

Ornelas and Schmieding continue to write for Rutherford Falls. They are joined by a team of writers that includes Tai Leclaire, Tazbah Chavez, Dash Turner and Azie Dungey.

All eight episodes of the Rutherford Falls second season will be available on Peacock on June 16. The first season, featuring 10 episodes, remains viewable on the platform.
