2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
APPLICATIONS OPEN: LEADING PEOPLE AND INVESTING TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
Leading People and Investing to Build Sustainable Communities is a collaboration among Harvard Business School (HBS), NAFOA, National Congress of the America Indian (NCAI) and AFOA Canada. Its mission is to inspire and support Native finance professionals and leaders, as well as equip them with the tools to lead high-performing, innovative communities or organizations.

Dates: May 9-13, 2022
Location: Harvard Business School, Boston, MA
Program Fee: $3,000

3. FOR TRIBAL LEADERS:
DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR TO SOLICIT NOMINATIONS FOR FIRST-EVER SECRETARY’S TRIBAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Members should be an elected or designated Tribal official who is qualified to represent the views of the Tribes in the respective BIA Region for which they are being nominated. Nominations will be considered for selection in the following priority order: Tribal President/Chairperson/Governor; Tribal Vice-President/Vice-Chairperson/Lt. Governor; Elected or Appointed Tribal Official; and Designated Tribal Official. If there is more than one nomination in the priority list, individuals who had a letter of support from regional or national Tribal organization(s) will be taken into consideration when selecting the primary and alternate delegates.

The Department will only consider completed member and alternate nomination packages. A complete nomination package should include the following information about each nominee:

  • BIA Region the nominee is being considered for.
  • The nominee’s name, title, contact information, geographic location, Tribal affiliation.
  • A resume that describes the nominees’ qualifications and technical experience.
  • A personal statement of the reasons why the nominee wants to serve on STAC, including examples of work, technical and/or professional experience at the local, Tribal or urban community level, and/or regionally, nationally.
  • A statement committing to the time to contribute to the bi-annual STAC meetings.
  • Any additional comments, including culturally relevant skills and personal experience, that could help contribute to the Commission’s deliberations.
  • An official letter from the Tribe.
  • Other letters of recommendation(s), including letters from regional or national Tribal organization(s).

The names of each nominated STAC member and alternate must be submitted to the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs via e-mail to oiea@ios.doi.gov in an official letter from the Tribe by Monday, May 9, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

4. GRANTS:
AMERICORPS INDIAN TRIBES GRANTS NOTICE OF FUNDING OPPORTUNITY
This opportunity is open to federally recognized Indian Tribes. AmeriCorps is committed to working on a Nation–to–Nation basis with Tribal Nations and upholding the federal government’s Tribal trust responsibility. In the FY 2022 AmeriCorps Indian Tribes competition, AmeriCorps seek to prioritize the investment of national service resources in:

  • Efforts to help local communities respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Educational opportunity and economic mobility for communities experiencing persistent unemployment or underemployment, and students experiencing homelessness or in foster care.
  • Programs that prioritize civic engagement/social cohesion.
  • Economic Opportunity – including digital skills and increased access to broadband.
  • Education – improving student academic performance in Science, Technology,
  • Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), traditional knowledge and indigenous language, and/or serving students who attend Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools.
  • Veterans and Military Families, Caregivers, and Survivors – a program model that improves the well-being of military families, caregivers, and survivors.
  • Environmental stewardship and climate change including renewable energy and energy efficiency, building community resilience, sustainable food systems and agriculture, water/wastewater, and conservation and habitat preservation.

5. JOBS:
NAFOA IS SEEKING INSTITUTE PROJECT MANAGER
The Institute Program Manager (“Position”) requires strong communications and organizational skills to work effectively and maintain an environment of collaboration with NAFOA staff, partners, community stakeholders, and consultants.

The Position is responsible for ensuring that the Tribal Financial Managers Certificate program and other professional development programs meet the learning objectives required for an impactful and relevant learning experience for program participants. Applicants should demonstrate success in working with diverse student populations and tribal communities. The successful candidate will possess the ability to identify potential growth opportunities for the NAFOA Institute programs and make programmatic recommendations that increase participation and strengthen learning opportunities.
